Debut of Utopia of the Seas, Royal Caribbean's new ship
30 Jul 2024

The new ship Utopia of the Seas was christened in Port Canaveral by singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor. The star, known for her hits "All About that Bass" and "Made You Look", held the ceremony on the deck of the aquatheater, breaking a bottle of champagne on the side of the ship. The ship was decorated with streamers and confetti, creating a festive atmosphere.

Utopia of the Seas then set sail on its first commercial voyage from Port Canaveral. The three-day trip, with stops in Nassau and Perfect Day at CocoCay, was typical of the ship's short itineraries.

Features of Utopia of the Seas

Utopia of the Seas is the first Oasis-class ship to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG).
It is the second largest cruise ship in the world and Royal Caribbean's largest ship, designed for short cruises of three to four nights.

Passengers report a pulsating party atmosphere on board, consistent with the slogan "Incredible Weekend". This atmosphere will especially appeal to young parents who love to party but also appreciate the family-friendly amenities of an Oasis-class ship.

On board the ship, music can be heard from every corner, and passengers can enjoy a variety of culinary and bar offerings in more than 40 locations.

The ship also features new features compared to Wonder of the Seas, including a railroad-themed restaurant, a new Pesky Parrot bar (replacing the former Bionic Bar), a new upper deck layout and two new staterooms with unique views located above the navigation bridge.

Utopia of the Seas Unveils New Solarium Suite

If you've ever dreamed of seeing what the captain sees, this is the suite for you. There are only two Solarium Suites on board, located directly above the bridge and offering 270-degree views.

The spacious living and dining area allows for views to the front and rear. In the bedroom, the bed is set at an angle so you can admire the views through the panoramic windows.

The only thing missing from the Solarium suites is a balcony. It is also worth paying attention to the Aqua Suite, which overlooks the AquaTheater and has a large balcony.

Updated main pool on Utopia of the Seas

Inspired by Icon of the Seas concepts, the main pool has been redesigned to accommodate parents to keep an eye on their children by relocating Splashaway Bay opposite the Perfect Storm water slides.

The main pool is surrounded by vibrant metal palm fronds and features an elevated Jacuzzi.

New Royal Railway restaurant on Utopia of the Seas

Royal Railway, a new railway-themed restaurant, offers a five-course gastronomic journey, creating the atmosphere of a train journey.

The program is initially inspired by the American Wild West, but other themes are already being developed, such as wine regions and the historical Silk Road.

The event begins with a cocktail hour in the Utopia Station area, where you can choose from five specially created drinks: Gold Rush, Pisco Sour, the 49er, Cherry Bourbon & Cola and Brandy Crusta.

Guests then proceed to a cozy restaurant decorated like a classic train carriage, where the atmosphere is created by improv actors dressed in period outfits and maintaining character throughout the event. The windows on each side are equipped with LED screens that display the landscape of the American West, which rushes past at a moderate speed as the “train” sets off.

The menu includes dishes such as baked beans, corn soup, empanada trio, baked brook trout and baked poussin, while the dessert "Royal Railway Cigar" is a cigar-shaped ice cream topped with Oreo cookie crumbs and a scoop of dulce de leche ice cream.

There is a separate children's menu with items such as chicken enchiladas, beef sliders and chicken nuggets.

The entire program lasts 90 minutes and includes a theatrical performance with audience participation.

Royal Railway is a paid entertainment with a dynamic pricing model.

A little more about the new items on the Utopia of the Seas liner

The outdated Bionic Bar has been replaced by a new Caribbean-themed bar, Pesky Parrot, on the Royal Promenade. Light blue wooden shutters and 10 screens displaying beach scenes bring the beach atmosphere right on board.

There's also a new Vue Bar (the best place to watch the sunset), located where other Oasis-class ships have cantilevered Jacuzzis.

The Lime & Coconut Bar has grown even larger to accommodate the large fans needed to run the ship on liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The Royal Promenade also features familiar spots such as Spotlight Karaoke and Starbucks. Further along you can find the famous bars Rising Tide Bar and the English pub Bell & Barley.

Plants and trees that will become part of Utopia Central Park have also been added as part of the update.

Giovanni's Italian restaurant has been relocated to two floors on decks 8 and 9 and debuted the first-of-its-kind Gio's Terrazza overlooking the Boardwalk.

At the rear of the vessel are the entrances to the breathtaking dry coaster Ultimate Abyss, which is now 43 feet longer than its predecessors at 259 feet.

Utopia also offers plenty of entertainment for children, including separate rooms for different age groups and a performance theater on Deck 14.

Utopia of the Seas sails to Orlando, where three- and four-night cruises to the private island Perfect Day at CocoCay will begin. These short cruises are ideal for family travelers and those looking to get the most out of a short time.

Welcome aboard Utopia of the Seas!
